Evolve owners are getting a nice surprise today.

The multiplayer shooter gets a new mode today, and it’s completely free. Arena Mode takes the 4-vs-1 gameplay — where four players take on a monster that a fifth controls — and puts it inside smaller arenas (hence the name). This ditches some of the normal game’s long and sometimes tedious tracking of the beast. Evolve has sold about 2.5 million copies since its release in February for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and new content like this can keep these players from trading it in.

Arena Mode is a best-of-three experience, with fights taking place in different locations for each round. Developer Turtle Rock made it clear in a press release sent to GamesBeat that the goal of Arena Mode was to create a quicker, more action-packed version of the shooter.

We thought that Evolve was a fun game that quickly felt tired, so maybe this new mode can help the experience feel fresher. Players criticized Evolve for having too many in-game purchases, so it’s nice (and a little surprising) to see that this new mode is free.
