Destiny is getting more than just The House of Wolves expansion in 2015

One way people describe publisher Activision’s sci-fi shooter Destiny — whether they hate it or love it — is “content-starved.” Well, the publisher and developer Bungie are planning to address that in 2015.

Destiny’s next expansion, The House of Wolves, is due out sometime from the start of April through June 30, according to developer Bungie. House of Wolves adds new guns, missions, and armor to the loot-driven shooter. In addition to this expansion, another “major content” release is due out this year, Activision said during a conference call with investors today.

Destiny is one of Activision’s biggest new games, and the company continually reminds everyone that it was the most successful launch of a new game property ever. Unlike Call of Duty, however, Destiny will not operate on an annual release schedule, which is why keeping players happy with new content is so important to this franchise.

“We’re keeping all other details [about The House of Wolves] under wraps for now,” Bungie community manager David Dague wrote in a blog post. “There is a special team here that’s dedicated to creating some new ways for you to play Destiny. They’re also making the game you know a better reflection of what we’ve learned about you since you’ve started playing.”

Destiny has “16 million registered” players, Acitivision boss Bobby Kotick said today, although that could include people who have multiple accounts.

Dague said that Bungie wants the team working on the expansion to include fans in the process while simultaneously enabling these creators to explore new possibilities.

In addition to making this announcement, Activision reported its annual financial results today. It generated a record $2.2 billion from digital sales in 2014. A significant portion of that came from Destiny’s add-on content as well as other games like World of Warcraft (which is above 10 million subscribers again) and Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft.
