Getting more users, monetizing your apps: Presenting the Los Angeles mobile developer roadshow

We’re going on the road.

VentureBeat has been exploring mobile and marketing technology via VB Insight, our new research initiative. We talked to the most successful developers to find out how they acquired users for their mobile apps — and not just any users, users who convert to paying customers. And we talked to mobile marketers who are pulling in over $600 million annually about how to best monetize their apps and games.

Now we’re ready to start taking this knowledge out to the world. Or, at least Los Angeles.

flappy-bird1We’re giving away our two best-selling reports, each based on straight-from-developer insights (and each a $500 value), we’ve got a sweet location at The Huntley in Santa Monica, we’ve got food and drinks, and we’re looking to bring in the best and brightest of the Los Angeles mobile app community.

The first report, on mobile user acquisition, confirms that Facebook and Google are the king and queen of getting users, but that there are “five hidden horsemen” of user acquisition who each drive as much or more mobile users as Twitter or YouTube. And, of course, adds a ton more insight in terms of what successful mobile companies do better than those with fewer users.

The second shows how the richest apps are taking in more revenue than others. It includes the most effective monetization strategies — as well as the ones that annoy your users the most.

The goal of this half-day event, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., is simple: learning more from each other about mobile development, mobile marketing, mobile user acquisition, and monetizing mobile.

Thanks to sponsorship by AdColony, attendance is free.

There is, however, a limit to how many we can invite. In fact, since this is our first event, we’re holding it to 100 of L.A.’s best and brightest mobile professionals, and we won’t be able to fit in everyone we’d like.

So how do you get in?

And, if you’re not in L.A., hang tight for a few months. We’re planning to hit Seattle, Austin, New York, Chicago, and possibly a few other cities. We’ll be announcing those dates over the next few months.
