Brutal Legend developer Double Fine is planning to throw down a shindig in San Francisco, so fans can play its new games. The friendly studio is also inviting some of its peers to show off their titles all while DJ Phil Fish drops the needle in a one-of-a-kind performance.
It’s called Day of the Devs, and it is happening Nov. 2 at Public Works in San Francisco. The festivities go from 4 until 8 p.m., and it is free to attend.
”It’s basically all of our favorite people in one place, for a night of awesome games, food, music, happiness, and creativity,” Double Fine chief executive Tim Schafer said. “Essentially, a Night of 1,000 Hugs.”
Developers partaking in the event include Supergiant Games, Capy Games, Gaijin Games, SpyParty, Honeyslut, and Tribute Games. Gaming-art collective iam8bit will also have a major presence. This means gamers will get a chance to play Double Fine’s Kickstarter adventure title Broken Age, Supergiant’s Transistor, Capy’s Super Time Force, and more.
Double Fine also will show off an unannounced new game.
If Day of the Devs is successful, it’s possible that it could turn into a yearly thing, according to Double Fine brand manager Greg Rice.
“We would love [to make it larger next year],” Rice told GamesBeat. “We’ve been doing a lot of outreach on a more grassroots level. We’ve had a great time with it. Unfortunately, a lot of [these things normally take] place outside of [San Francisco] — at events like PAX. So we’re excited to do this in the city. It’s a really invigorating thing to talk directly with your fans.”
