News Blips: Dante’s New Look, UK Devs Exploited, Red Nintendo Bundle Details, and More

Like many of you, I was surprised with Dante's changed appearance in the Tokyo Game Show reveal of Devil May Cry. Unlike many of you, I still saw a lanky guy in a red trench-coat.

News Blips:

DanteCapcom sticks to its renvisioning of Devil May Cry's Dante. Speaking with IGN, Capcom's Vice President of Strategic Planning and Business Development Christian Svensson said Dante's image was due for an overhaul. "I will argue that any changes will bring about a knee-jerk reaction from fans," he said. "We know that; we knew that going into it. To be fair, I think some of the strategy here was to create that discussion and dialogue, and I think it drastically raises the visibility of the title versus if we had just done another Dante." Fans should realize that Dante's allure lies not in his looks but in his personality — and from what I saw in the trailer, he's still as cocksure as ever.

UK developers endure harsh working conditions, according to Splash Damage (Brink) head Paul Wedgwood. "If there's one thing we suffer from in the UK, it has been this continuous exploitation of game developer talent until we drive them into the ground and they become cynical and burned out and hate the industry," Wedgwood said in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz. He went on to underscore a need for good wages and a balance of work and life commitments. "If you're at the office and you're having fun, then you're on the right track whether you're working out of hours or not," he said. UK or not, Wedgwood's words are sound advice for game companies in other countries, too. We all need to afford our bangers and mash. (Sorry, had to do it.)

Nintendo reveals details on the November 7 North American launch of the red limited edition Wii and DSi XL bundles. As part of Mario's 25th anniversary celebration, the Wii bundle will be available for $199.99 and contain a red Wii, Super Mario Bros. Wii, Wii Sports, a sparkly new Wii Remote Plus controller, and a Nunchuck. The $179.99 DSi XL bundle brings a red DSi XL (with "three iconic Super Mario Bros.-themed graphics") and Mario Kart DS. Either all of this has to do with that Mario guy, or Nintendo decided to dabble a little too much with its "Russian Red" crayon.

Bethesda releases a much-needed patch for Fallout: New Vegas. A company rep on the Bethesda Blog said that the patch fixes "quest and scripting issues." Patches for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game will arrive "as soon as possible," according to the post. Now, if only Bethesda could patch my eyes after witnessing that horrifying unboxing video.
