Reviews Spotlight: Jet Packs, Freddy Krueger, and Super Mario

My life seemed understandably unstable after moving all of my possessions from one city to another. Luckily, we can always count on the weekly Reviews Spotlight to provide some semblance of dependability. This week, Spartans take to the skies, Ryan Conway travels back in time, and some dude punches a snake. Jetpacks not included.

Once You Go Jetpack… (Halo: Reach Quick Look)

By Carlos Macias
Since the days of da Vinci, humanity has craned his neck skyward. And while we've mastered the art of flight, personal air travel still evades us. Luckily, Halo: Reach has embraced the growing trend of vertical combat. But Reach offers more than simple flight — players may sprint, become invisible, or even invulnerable via new armor features. Have Bungie's new mechanics contaminated the once immaculate Halo experience? Carlos Macias investigates.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (NES): Truly Mediocre Terror
By Michael Rousseau
In preparation for the cinematic revival, Michael decided to revisit Freddy Krueger's console debut in Nightmare on Elm Street. Instead of providing a presumably creepy experience, the game shoves players into the role of a tough guy as he punches snakes and ghosts around town. Nothing could be further from the classic horror film. After reading this review, you'll be too terrified to fall asleep.

By Ryan Conway
The week, Bitmob's favorite review series departs for the far away land of yesteryear. It's rare to see a retro game like Super Mario Bros. 2 receive anything but praise. Fortunately, Ryan pulls no punches as he inspects the Nintendo classic. To find out whether Mario has matured well or simply grown out of style, check out the review.

Super Mario Bros. CrossoverNow that your mind's been blown apart, allow Chas to confuse what's left of it. After thoroughly analyzing both the original game and the Flash-based mod, this Bitmobber was able to categorically explain what makes the latter so important. Finish fooling around in the Flash game and head over to Chas' article!

Darksiders: Wrath of War
By Kevin John Frank
Not since Halo 3: ODST has Bitmob seen so many reviews focus on a single game. Without question, Darksiders has certainly entertained its fair share of community members. But what makes Kevin's review worth reading? Well, beyond his to-the-point demeanor, Kevin provides what a lot of Bitmobbers forget to: facts. Without plummeting into tangential anectodes or experiences, this review calmly explains where Darksiders fails and succeeds. For some much-needed level-headedness, give Kevin's article a read.
