Remember back when Microsoft announced that the Xbox 360 would be receiving Netflix support and that gamers would then be able to stream their movie selections straight to their consoles? Well, it looks like Sony is striking back as it has just been announced that the PlayStation 3 will indeed be receiving Netflix support as well, directly through the XMB.

Netflix PS3

Steve Swasey, VP of Corporate Communications for Netflix has announced that the service will be hitting PS3s next month, more than likely in the form of a firmware update. This will undoubtedly deal an incredible blow to the multimedia capabilities of the 360 with the PS3 now supporting DVD, Blu-ray, media server streaming AND Netflix Queue support. Looks like Sony’s momentum going into the holiday season wasn’t some sort of false sense of security after all. This is most certainly going to be interesting.
