So it’s come to this. Since the original Donkey Kong, the big ape’s starred in a few titles, most notably the first Donkey Kong Country. Other than that, he’s been regulated to the background as just another competitor in games such as Mario Kart and Mario Party or as window dressing in others.
And now, Donkey Kong suffers the ultimate humiliation. Assumedly to pay for child support or alimony to his common-law wife, Candy, DK’s been forced to pimp himself out to the soda-pop industry. [Via Geekologie]
On a brighter note, Mario’s shilling for soda as well — maybe Super Mario Galaxy didn’t do as well as expected. [Via Pixelatedgeek]
In all seriousness, though, this is actually a great trend that we hope continues. Anything that brings the characters that we love to the forefront and perhaps stokes excitement in games has got to be a good thing.
