Dead by Daylight stepped into a pile by gifting free items to YouTuber TheBurntPeanut over the Halloween weekend.

Developer/publisher Behaviour Interactive gave TheBurntPeanut every item in the game that players normally have to pay for.

And now the multiplayer survival horror team at Behaviour Interactive has apologized for what it called the unauthorized actions of a community manager. The backlash has been tough and fans are review bombing the game.

“Although it is not unusual to unlock content to give creators discovering DbD a chance to have a sneak peek at available content, this decision was made without receiving appropriate approvals,” the studio said in a statement. “Furthermore, the team member’s subsequent comments and conduct do not align with Dead by Daylight’s core values.”

TheBurntPeanut joked about the situation and said “we can take the heat. They are yours to keep” in Twitch chat. The studio said staff have been getting threats as a result of the controversy, which also relates to TheBurntPeanuts unfettered behavior online, including slurs that have offended a variety of people.
