FX and Ubisoft announced today that it has added a new name to the cast list of the upcoming “Far Cry” show adaptation: Acclaimed actor Steve Buscemi. He’s the latest cast member to join the anthology series, based on the video game series of the same name. At present, the series has no confirmed release date.
According to Ubisoft and producers Noah Hawley and Rob Mac, the series will imitate the games in the sense that each season will be set in a new location and follow a new set of characters. The other cast members thus far announced are Mac and Lizzy Caplan, from FX’s other series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Fleishman Is in Trouble, respectively.
No one’s characters have yet been confirmed, but one recurring staple of the Far Cry games is an iconic villain. For each story, there’s one standout villain who is usually the most memorable part of the story. The Jackal for Far Cry 2, Vaas Montenegro for Far Cry 3, Pagan Min for Far Cry 4 and Joseph Seed for Far Cry 5.
For the most recent game, Far Cry 6, Ubisoft cast Giancarlo Esposito, known for playing iconic villains in shows like Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian, among many others. Buscemi is similarly known for playing villains in movies like Fargo and Reservoir Dogs, as well as more anti-heroic roles on shows like Boardwalk Empire. It’s perhaps not a stretch to imagine that the role they’ve earmarked for Buscemi is as the first of the show’s villains.
Nothing has yet been confirmed. (But I can dream, can’t I?)
