Mythical Mythical and Pudgy Penguins this week revealed more information about its upcoming mobile game, Pudgy Party. The cheerful mobile game brings the cute web3 brand to a social game environment, which is set to debut sometime in late summer. The two companies first revealed the mobile game late last year, and is currently open for pre-registration.
The game features the Pudgy Penguins in a mobile royale-style game in which players must squabble in 20-player matches to eliminate each other in a series of minigames. From what GamesBeat saw of the game before its release, it bears a strong resemblance to other party games, being a generally family-friendly experience with silly, charming vibes starring the rotund avians.
Mythical Games CEO John Linden told GamesBeat in an interview that Pudgy Penguin “We think this the first opportunity to bring two worlds together in a major way. You have this world of web3 that is thinking differently, transacting differently. You bring that together with a mass-market audience and some interesting things start happening. I’d also say this is one of the most beautiful-looking mobile apps I’ve seen in a long time.”
Bringing penguins together
Linden added that Pudgy Party has a strong social element, but was developed with strong gameplay in mind. “You have to have the gameplay first to get people to rally behind it, but I think this is also an experiment in the next layer of how people play together. To me, this is going to show the true power that people have been talking about with web3.” This is not Mythical’s first venture within the web3 space, as it also published NFL Rivals, a mobile game with a digital card collecting element that currently has millions of players.
Luca Netz, Pudgy Penguins CEO, added, “For us to become the face of penguins around the world, Pudgy Penguins needs to become a franchise, and Mythical seemed like the right partner to bring the penguins mobile… This is really our first swing at becoming a franchise. We’re really trying to pull out all the stops.”
