Tabula Digita raises round for educational games

Tabula Digita has raised $6 million in a second round of funding to make educational games. The New York-based game company is the latest in a crowd of companies — such as Lumos Labs and Vivity Labs — aiming at combining education and games, VentureWire reported.

Participants in the round included previous investor Ascend Venture Group and both previous and new individual investors. New York-based Tabula Digita provides students, middle schools and high schools schools with games where students can play on their own or against each other.

Chairman and Chief Executive Ntiedo Etuk said the company plans to expand its sales to include elementary schools beginning in January, and plans to debut games focused on science starting in 2009, Etuk said. Etuk founded Tabula Digita in 2003.

Tabula Digita previously raised a $3 million first round in December 2005 from Ascend and individuals.
