Hello Games announced the latest update to No Man’s Sky today, a new expansion called Worlds Part I. This new update rolls out today for all users. It’s a massive new update that overhauls the in-game planets to include new biodiversity, weather patterns, creatures and a Starship Troopers-inspired expedition, among other things. The update rolls out today for all players.

According to the patch notes, Worlds Part I, or version 5.0 of the game, includes features such as:

  • Overhauled water rendering
  • New atmospheric and cloud rendering system
  • Increased planetary variety and diversity
  • New procedurally generated creatures
  • Expedition Fourteen: Liquidators
  • And many other quality of life updates and bug fixes

Hello Games founder Sean Murray said that part of the development process has been feedback from the studio’s other game in the works: “The level of variety we are achieving is far beyond what was possible before… Six months ago we announced Light No Fire. It’s this insanely ambitious game. Over the last five years making game, we’ve learnt new things, and we’re feeding that back into No Man’s Sky. It feels like we’re bringing technology back from the future!”

Murray adds that, as the name suggests, there will be further updates to Worlds Part I. Other small quality of life fixes in the new update include improved shadows, discovery renaming, a new enemy called the Brood Mother, new cooking recipes and a plenitude of visual effects.
