Fallout 4 gets big free update for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on April 25

War never changes – but in the case of Fallout 4, it can get updated for a new generation of consoles. Today Bethesda announced that it’s putting out a free PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S update for its post-apocalyptic RPG on April 25.

In a blog posted on Bethesda’s website, the developer said the update includes native versions of the game for the current consoles, as well as Performance mode (promising up to 60 FPS) and Quality mode (for “increased resolutions”). Those playing on PS4 and Xbox One aren’t left behind, however: Bethesda will also have an update with stability improvements and bug fixes for quests.

PC is joining the free update party as well with bug fixes, widescreen and ultra-widescreen support, and Steam Deck verification. For the first time, Fallout 4 will also be listed for sale on the Epic Games Store.

But most surprisingly, all versions of the game will receive a new story quest, Echoes of the Past, one that focuses on stopping The Enclave faction from “spreading their dangerous ideology and gaining a foothold in the Commonwealth.” The studio is also giving away a variety of Creation Club content for use in the game, like new weapon skins and armor sets.

Fallout 4 originally released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2015 (you can check out GamesBeat’s original review of it here). The timing of this new update likely isn’t a coincidence: The Fallout TV show from Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy just premiered on Amazon Prime Video on April 10, and it’s receiving some positive buzz from both Fallout fans and critics alike.
