Notch 3 million tweet

Minecraft creator Markus Persson, better known as Notch, distributed almost three million dollars in dividends to his fellow employees at Mojang, 25 in all. That totals out to just under $120,000 per person. It’s quite the bonus.

Notch announced in a recent Tweet:

“Before tax, my dividends from Mojang for 2011 was about three million dollars. I chose to distribute that to the other employees.”

Dividends are payments made by a company to shareholders from its profits. This means that rather than take money paid to him by Mojang, he gave it to his employees.

Carl Menneh, who works at Mojang, Tweeted expressing his gratitude:

“Tonight at the 5M party @notch gave away all his dividends to the Mojang employees. Thanks to him, this is the best company in the world.

According to the Minecraft forums, which cites the game’s stat page, the title has raked in around $100 million in revenue to date. It also shows that Minecraft has over 23 million registered users.

Notch is a very successful fellow, and apparently a nice nice guy to boot.
