You know a teaser is epic when it ends with a melodic siren.
A reveal trailer for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III came out today. Dawn of War is a series of real-time strategy games based on the Warhammer 40,000 fictional universe (which originated as a tabletop game). The Dawn of War franchise has sold over 7 million copies worldwide. You can check out the epic (and corpse-filled) video for the next installment below, which will come out for PC in 2017.
The first Dawn of War came out for PC in 2004, followed by a sequel in 2009. Those games were published by THQ, which declared bankruptcy and liquefied its assets in 2012. Sega now has the rights to the franchise and owns developer Relic Entertainment, which is known for other strategy series like Homeworld and Company of Heroes.
Warhammer — both the sci-fi based 40,000 and medieval fantasy versions — has inspired dozens of video games for every platform imaginable, including the third-person shooter Space Marine (which came out for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC) and the chess-like Regicide (released for PC, iOS, and Android). The series has also had a pretty clear impact on Blizzard, with Warcraft and StarCraft taking plenty of inspiration from Warhammer’s design and setting. Those original board games are also some of the most popular tabletop experiences of all time, with Warhammer 40,000 selling more miniatures than any other warfare-based game.
