Violent 2D beat-’em-up hopes to get made via Square Enix’s Collective platform

If you like how this game looks, you could help make sure Square Enix finishes it.

Square Enix has introduced Delusional to the company’s Collective site, which allows gamers to vote and provide feedback on pitches for new games. If the project gets enough support, the publisher will help the developer make their a game a reality. Square Enix could set up a crowdfunding campaign for the project on Indiegogo or Kickstarter. If that succeeds, Square Enix could offer to help distribute the actual game (taking 10 percent of revenue, net of taxes and digital platform fees, for itself).

Many games pitched on Collective have had success receiving crowdfunding, including Moon Hunters, Tokyo Dark, and XO.

“Essentially, we’re trying to help small teams build awareness of their ideas and ultimately self-publish — while retaining IP and full creative control,” Square Enix notes on the Collective’s site.

The pixelated Delusional is violent retro game filled with neon signs, and inspired by movies like OldBoy and John Wick. Its studio wants to release on the PC, Mac, and Linux platforms. You can watch a trailer for the project below.
