The Force Awakens comes to Star Wars: Commander

The mobile tie-in awakens.

Disney announced a new content update for its mobile game Star Wars: Commander. Players can now battle on Takodana, a planet from the anticipated film Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which comes out on December 18. This bit of synergy will help bring new and old players back to tactical mobile title — and maybe help its No. 309 ranking on the Apple App Store, as industry tracking firm App Annie reports.

Commander is available for iOS, Android, and Kindle. The free-to-play game originally came out in August 2014. According to Disney, mobile users have downloaded Commander more than 20 million times. The mobile market is worth an estimated $30 billion this year, according to the researchers at Newzoo. Commander is a part of a new wave of mobile releases for Star Wars, along with the turn-based Galaxy of Heroes and the action-based Uprising.

The update also adds two new units: the Luggabeast Munitioneer and the Dowutin Hunter. Both of them also come from The Force Awakens.
